    Dr. John S Laine died at his home at Hickory Flat, in this county, last Monday night of a complication of diseases super induced by kidney trouble, with which he had for many years been a sufferer. The following short history of the life of Dr. Lain is taken from the history of Kentucky:  Dr. Lain was born October 15, 1834 in Wilson Co Tenn. He moved to Sumner County in 1848, entered the Thirtieth Tennessee Confederate Regiment of Infantry in August 1861 and remained in the army until 1863... His father, Thornton Lain, a native of east Tennessee, was born in 1800, was a planter, and died in 1855... In 1859 he commenced the study of medicine with his uncle, Dr. A. G. Lain, of Gibson County, Tenn. He located at Palmyra in Simpson County in 1865, in which vicinity he has since been successfully engaged in the practice of his profession. He first married, February 2, 1865, Mary A., daughter of Dr. E. D. and Bettie (Hobdy) Fonville, of Simpson County, born May 24, 1849, died March 26, 1876, and their union was favored by the birth of Fannie B. (Williams) and Edgar H. On the 24th day of May 1878, he married Burnett, daughter of Samuel and Rebecca (Smith) Hatfield, of Simpson County, born November 14, 1849, and to them has been born one, daughter, Myrtle. In 1881 Dr. Lain was elected representative of Simpson County to the Legislature of the State, after appropriate funeral services at the family residence yesterday, the remains were interred near his home at Hickory Flat.

ROBERT LANEY TAKEN SUDDENLY BY HEART ATTACK

Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Laney, 76-year-old retired carpenter and farmer who died suddenly Saturday afternoon were conducted Monday afternoon at the Brownlee and Turner Funeral Home.

Mr. Laney was stricken with a heart attack Saturday at a drinking fountain at the courthouse. He was dead on arrival at the hospital. He had been under the care of a physician for a heart condition for some time.

The Rev. Charlie Harper conducted services. Burial was at Peden's cemetery here.

A native of Warren Co, KY, Mr. Laney was the son of the late Issac Laney and Fannie Hendricks Laney. He had lived in Simpson Co. most of his life. He had been a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church for 32 years.

Surviving are two sons, Sylvester "Bud" Laney, sheriff-elect of Simpson County, and Atha Laney also of Simpson County; seven daughters, Mrs. Clarence Mayes, Mrs. Luther Johns, Mrs. Earl Strain, Mrs. Terrance Strain, Mrs. Nathan Hall, Mrs. William Collins, all of Simpson County, and Mrs. Raymond Bell, Louisville; 25 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.
