Thompson Manion Newman, a Confederate soldier, and for twenty-seven years a resident of Montgomery, died at his residence, 25 Wilkinson Street, at 11:15 o'clock Saturday morning. He was 81 years old. Mr. Newman was born in Franklin, Ky. June 7, 1849. He came to Montgomery twenty-seven years ago. During the civil war he was a Confederate soldier, and served four years with the 7th Kentucky Infantry. He was in the employ of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company until two years ago, when he retired, after thirty-eight years service with the company. He was a member of a Presbyterian church in Franklin, Ky., and a member of the Masonic fraternity. Mr. Newman is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. N. J. Tuttle, MRS. T. H. Ligon and Miss Ellie T Newman of Montgomery, two sisters, Mrs. Harvey Roark and Mrs. William Reeder, of Franklin, Ky.; two brothers, W. H. and John Newman of Louisville, Ky.; two grandchildren, Miss Ellie N. Ligon and Mrs. J. S. Dickey, Jr., both of Montgomery.
