"Pioneer Gone"

James C. Stewart whom every man in the county of Simpson knew, died in the winter of his age at his home Friday morning October 3, surrounded by his family and neighbors. He was born in 1815, was therefore seventy-five years old.

Uncle Jim Crack left a grand legacy to his wife and children worth more than gold or silver, a good name.

He was perfectly conscious of the approaching doom and was ready to meet the Messenger. His way was clear and unclouded and so testified to all visiting friends.

The prayer of those who stood around the dying couch, was "may my last hours be like his."

He was a member of the Christian church. He loved to tell of his experience and his faith in his Redeemer.

"Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord."

STUART, EUCLID B.*
October 13, 1939

Euclid B. Stuart, 79, died at home on East Cedar Street Wednesday after-noon following a protracted invalidism. Mr. Stuart was a son of the late Abner Stuart and Mrs. Martha Downey Stuart, and was reared in Simpson County. After completing a course, in school he was connected for a time with the mercantile trade in Warren County, but removed to Atlanta about forty years ago, where he was engaged as a fruit broker, conducting business also in Florida. His health grew delicate a few years ago, when he returned to Franklin. However his winters were spent in the South, but neither climate benefited his health, and for the past year it grew gradually worse until the end came as stated above. Mr. Stuart was a practical, successful business man, and possessed characteristics which made him a prince among men. Honest to a farthing, scrupulously dependable in every sense, his word was his bond and it is hardly probable that during a long and active life in the marts of trade any act of his ever gave offense to a fellowman. He belonged to a generation, of which he was a perfect type, that is rapidly passing, and truly it can be said that upon his like the people of Simpson County will never again look.
